The Ultimate Matrix Collection

Great Collection For The Hardcore Fans
During the following I will intend to describe as best and briefly as possible this collection. I also will mention some differences between this collection and the original releases. Enjoy.

The difference between the limited and the unlimited editions are: The Limited Edition comes in a plastic box with trays, a Neo bust and an 80 page booklet that lists the extras of the 10 disks (yes, that's all it does). Besides this the sets are the same.

These two sets include all three films, The Animatrix, the film footage shot for Enter the Matrix videogame and 106 documentaries. The bonus disks for Reloaded and Revolutions are different from those included in the versions already released.

REMASTERD: The movies were enhanced so the films look brighter in color and richer in details. Don't worry it was not done by Gorge Lucas. The films are the same.

AUDIO: Also enhanced (not that it was necessary). Voices are stronger, gentle noises stand out more...

Enter The Matrix All Within Your Budget With This Great Set!
There's really no reason to go into describing The Matrix Trilogy. Unless you lived under a rock for the past ten years, The Matrix is one of the most original and influential Science Fiction films of recent memory. Starring Keanu Reeves and directed by The Wachowski Brothers (who recently gave us the live-action Speed Racer film), this tale of computers taking over the reality of the human race and a small group of survivors in constant battle to win back their independence, successfully blasted it's way through theatres between the years of 1999 thru 2003. Complete with two theatrical sequels and one direct-to-video animated film called "The Animatrix", it was THE complete tale to own on DVD. Each film was released separately on the format as two-disc sets complete with somewhat bloated extras (The first and animated releases keep the extras on the film disc). But back in 2004, Warner Bros. released the "Ultimate Matrix Collection", a whopping ten disc collection featuring a brand...

Finally the BD version!
Been waiting for this BD version for a while. I have the HD-DVD trilogy which was awesome. Before that had the 10 disc DVD version of the Ultimate Matrix Collection which was awesome.

The Blu-ray version is the best of them (except that it doesn't come with a Neo bust like the DVD edition did).

At the time of purchase and of writing this review the product info was wrong on the Blu-ray version. It claims it is a 10 disc set, when it actually is a 6 disc set, 4 Blu-ray's and 2 DVD's. I notified Amazon.com of this, but who knows when they will get around to fixing it.

Also it was said that this is a waste of money in another review because newer DVD players upscale. However this person must have never seen an upscaled movie compared against a Blu-ray or HD-DVD version of the same. There is a BIG BIG difference, I watch a lot of movies "upscaled" but all that does is allow you to watch a DVD movie on a HD TV, it improves the quality a little but not...

The Gate (Special Edition)

It's About Bloody Time!
I have the original pressing of this on DVD, which is in full screen, but now I can finally have the widescreen version. So, if you're looking for a horror movie with tons of gore and blood spewing everywhere, this movie is not for you. This movie is for teenagers, and that's when I saw this movie. I watched it in theaters, and I was hooked. The movie has everything; humor, great special effects, and a lot of the actors are good. I won't write a summary of the plot, since there's one already provided by Amazon.com, so I'll just say that if you don't mind a bit of camp and some cheesy dialog, this movie is for you. I know I'm buying this the day it comes out.

Afterthought. After comparing both the original full screen version and this newly released version, I can without a doubt say that this is truly the wide screen theatrical version. Thank you Lionsgate for releasing it its true form. My hat is off to you.

Ah, Memories....
What horror fan didn't catch this movie on HBO or USA back in the day? I haven't seen this film in over 15 years, but when I did see it, I saw it MANY times. I recently watched it again to see if it was as fun as I remember. Usually watching a movie years later that you loved as a kid is a bad move coz you tend to be disappointed. After all, through the eyes of a child you don't look for or hang on to the inaccuracies. You're able to accept a premise no matter how far fetched, and acting no matter how bad. While I saw a bit of both, I was pleasantly surprised that the movie still retained all of it's fun factor. I still really like it! I'm gonna give you a quick rundown regardless of what the schmuck below says: Glen(a very young Stephen Dorff), and his teenage sister are left alone to mind the house while mommy and daddy are gone. After a storm, they discover a big hole in the backyard that we quickly find out is a gateway for demons to come through and take over the world...

80s horror that rocks!!!
While it's definitely overlooked by horror buffs everywhere, "The Gate" is definitely a classic piece of horror cinema from the generation that brought us so many great horror movies to begin with -- the 80s. It has every element needed for a successful -- if predictable -- horror film. Parents leave teenage sister, younger brother, and younger brother's metally disturbed metal lovin' best friend alone for the weekend. The two boys, playing in the backyard, dig up a hole that is actually the gateway to hell! A couple creepy scenes here and there (including levitation and weird writing on the walls) and BAM! The miniature, Play-Doh looking demons are running around the backyard and the house terrorizing all inside. Zombies bust through the walls, best friend ends up being abducted along with teenage sister, and it's up to the younger brother to save the day! (He does, don't worry). You MUST rent this one at the very least. It's too bad it isn't on DVD.

The Hills: Season Five, Part One

LC's final season
The Hills, Season Five Part One, continues on with the never-ending (but always entertaining!) drama that the show is famous for. While this season is the last for cast member LC (aka Lauren Conrad), whom the show is normally centered around, this season actually mostly focuses on Spencer and Heidi, while LC pretty much fades into the background for the majority of it. The season starts off with just as much drama as ever, when Stephanie Pratt brings Heidi to LC's birthday party uninvited, creating some tension. Spencer is less than thrilled that Heidi is hanging out with his sworn enemy, so he goes out to a bar for a "guys night", and ends up flirting with a bartender named stacey. When Heidi finds out about Spencer's flirting (At LC's party) she dramatically demands that she wants to get off the yacht that the party is being held on, and is surprisingly comforted by her old friend LC. The two girls have a teary talk, leaving Heidi hopeful for a renewal for their friendship at...

Bittersweet
Definitely a good show filled with drama! I was just sad to see Lauren leave (this was her last season). I recommend to anyone who has seen the previous seasons, Laguna Beach, or if in need of a new, fun show to watch!

Hills season 5
It was as it should be, a drama series about nothing that my Girlfriend really loves and it did what all the others did, kept her fixed to the couch till she watchesd every episode in one day

Audition (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

The less you know, the better
I had heard of "Audition" for months before actually getting my hands on a copy of the DVD. I basiscally knew what to expect -- slow first hour, horrific final half hour, leaving you guessing at the nature of what really happens. However, because I'd read so much about the film, I think I really cheated myself out of a truly visceral horror experience.

First, a short plot synopsis: Main charcter's wife dies. Seven years later, he's lonely and decides he wants to re-marry. To meet women, he holds an audition, casting for a fake movie, in order to easily meet young women. One particular young lady captures his fancy. But she is definitely more than she seems.

ATTENTION: This is NOT a Hollywood horror film. Don't expect the fake-scare red herrings, or the busty brainless chicks creeping into the attic to find out what that growling noise is. In fact, Audition contains few, if any, "shock" moments. Instead, the movie is a slow boil of disturbing creepiness that crescendoes into a...

Piano wire makes for a fun evening!
In the battle between men and women, who will triumph? Who knows, but Japanese director Takashi Miike's film "Audition" shines a particularly brutal light on this eternal conflict. Set in Japan, the film takes on additional significance considering what we know about the role of women in that society. I am far not expert on Japanese social roles or mores, but I imagine the stereotypical picture of a Japanese woman as a subservient figure to men is more or less an accurate one. Certainly, gender roles have changed somewhat over the last fifty plus years as Japan rapidly industrialized and assumed a western style political system. One hopes that some progress in this area has taken place there, but I am not so sure after watching this film. Apparently, the idea of a docile, ever ready to serve her partner woman still exerts a strong influence in that country. Otherwise, "Audition" would make little sense to its target audience. Completely independent of its effect on...

A+
AUDITION - directed by Takashi Miike (2001)
DVD/VHS
10/10
Japanese with English Subtitles
This film is un-rated and contains graphic violence.

Takashi Miike has accomplished drawing the audience in slowly with subtle and well-made storytelling that turns into a roller coaster ride of white-knuckle extreme terror. At first it seems as though Miike is presenting at straightforward family drama. Husband/father Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) widowed seven years prior decides under the gentle and humorous direction of his son (Tetsu Sawaki) it is time to remarry. Simple? Well, no. Aoyama's drinking buddy Yoshikawa (Jun Kunimura) decides to hold a fake audition for a film in search of the perfect woman. The editing during this sequence has a natural rhythm and humor that highlights the whole facade as the numbers of unusual women are asked a series of questions. Enter Asami (Eihi Shiina), a former ballet dancer, who seems to have suffered in her past. Aoyama falls in...

NFL: A Tradition of Defense - The Chicago Bears

'Monsters of the Midway'...? Oh, yeah.
Born in 1952, I was just old enough to notice NFL football when the Bears drafted Dick Butkus at Middle Linebacker. I was a running back on my grade school football team but also a defensive back, so I LOVED Gale Sayers and gradually grew to love Mr. Butkus as well. To this day his style of play and his attitude towards opponents is why I love Chicago Bear football.

Butkus was one of those physically strong men who you can identify simply by shaking their hand. When he hit a guy, he folded up like a rubber table at the church social... and sometimes they stayed hit to the point of being carried off the field.

That kind of defensive punishment has been the hallmark of great Bear teams throughout their history and is documented in this video.

Butkus, Singletary, and now Urlacher... you get to see them all in action here. There have been other heavy hitters on the Bears' defense over the years (Ed O'Bradovich, Jim Dent, Gary Fencik, Otis Wilson and Wilber...

Hard Hitting Defense
This DVD, A Tradition of Defense: The Chicago Bears, is very good and complete as far as the history of great Bear Defenses is concerned. They go all the way back to the 20's and 30's with Grange and McAfee. Bulldog Turner, Buffone, George, Atkins, etc. are covered. Of course the 46 Defense is covered and my favorite character, Steve McMichael, made the all time team as a DT.

Bears Tradition
The DVD ranks the greatest Bears by position on defense so just for that it's a must have. It also contains a tribute to Papa Bear George Halas which any true fan would appreciate. The DVD is a little dated as a couple of Bears that are arguably the best we've seen at their respective positions, although mentioned, were not given the nod. In addition, players interviewed griped that Dent is still not in the Hall of Fame, an oversight which we know has since been rectified. Regardless of the above, I still enjoyed the DVD and I think any Bears fan would enjoy it as well.

PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal 2-DVD Set

Know this before you buy....it's Season 3 Lite
I guess since Echo Bridge can only obtain the rights for Season 3 of this show, they are going to rehash it over and over. For this edition, you have 16 of the original 22 episodes of Season 3 on two dual sided discs.

If you really want to see Season 3 (all 22 episodes), then I recommend Echo Bridge's PSI Factor Season 3. With that set, you get the episodes spread out across 5 single sided discs.

I really can't imagine the purpose of this release, other than to make money. I wasted mine, and I hope that this review is some use for those who've yet to take this plunge.

Titles Listed
As mentioned elsewhere, there are only 16 of the original 22 episodes from Season 3 in this collection.
They are:
1) Jaunt
2) Comings and Goings
3) Heartland
4) The Kiss
5) Absolution
6) All Hallows Eve
7) Palimpsest
8) Return
9) Harlequin
10) Little People
11) The Winding Cloth
12) Change
13) Valentine
14) Old Wounds
15) The Observer Effect
16) School of Thought

3/4 of the collection at half the price.... not a bad deal for the bargin hunter.

Not what i thought it would be
This isn't even a complete season! It doesn't play very well and some of the scenes just cut off. It isn't that big of a deal but I wish they didn't advertise it as a season when it's only HALF of one!

Ally McBeal: The Complete Series

Original Music Confirmed by Studio!!!
Finally it's available and in the proper format.
Fox studios has confirmed that all original music will be included in the release in addition to a CD with the best music from the show and The Practice cross-over episode "Axe Murderer". This is all that I wanted and more from the release of one of my favorite shows!

Piki-Piki- Piki- Pikipsi! Ally has arrived!
I love this show. I love it so much that when it was released on DVD in the UK I got copies imported to me and bought myself a region free player. It has been so wonderful having these shows when no one else in America does at the moment. It feels like my little secret. But I am worried over the state of the DVD's.

This set will be 32 discs. Originally I thought they'd just be rencoded versions of the British DVDs... That would have been more comforting. But here we get 5 seasons on 30 discs. The first season is full frame and the rest widescreen. Then disc 31 has a new retrospective featurette, and 5 or 6 vintage featurettes. Also an episode of "The Practice" when Ally crossed over and a music video.

The 32nd disc is curious. Fox has announced the set but has not stated if the music has been left intact. I can't see it being changed as a majority of the stories Need the specific songs chosen. They are not random. Also the characters mostly sing them live. It be...

Thrilled, At Last!
I'm absolutely thrilled to finally have this series on DVD. I have been waiting on this great and funny show to come out on DVD in the US for many years. I remember laughing out loud many nights at this wacky show. After doing some research I decided it may never come out in the US and began researching how to play other region DVD sets since this show was available for Region 2.

If you're thinking of getting this DVD set in Region 2 format, don't worry. Playing it in the US was not hard. The UK based region 2 DVD set is a PAL video format that must be converted to NTSC format to view on a US TV. Fortunately, this isn't hard. There are some DVD players available that do this conversion automatically. Your DVD player must also be multi-region or region free. A quick google search revealed some hacks that could be used to convert certain DVD players to region free.

I purchased a Phillips DVP 5982 at Best Buy. It took 30 seconds to type in the code using the remote...

Las Tontas No Van Al Cielo

Las Tontas No Van Al Cielo
I had enjoyed this telenovela at first to help me with my Spanish but the storylines with subplots such as plastic surgery, feminisim, HIV in teenagers, drug abuse, sexual abuse, homosexuality, abortion, safe sex procedures, obesity, anorexia, bulimia, sterilization, leukemia, alcoholisim and mental illnesses. Having enjoyed the work of Mr. Camil from past work, it seems that the romantic comedy is something that he does very well no matter who he is matched up with. Ms. Bracamontes shows her talent and charisma in this and hopefully she and Mr. Camil return to this type of format in the future. Everyone should have a guilty pleasure and this should be it.

Why it was poorly edited?
The soap was poorly edited I saw the full version and lots of things were missing. I understand that is the shortest version but it could include more details on things that were important for the viewer to understand somethings that happened through out the soap.

Dumb Girls Don't Go to Heaven
Las tontas no van al Cielo (920 minutes) is a telenovela (English captions) I liked so much I bought a copy from Amazon.com. Billed as a comedy, it still has the requisite melodrama, wildly passionate characters, evil plotters and misguided relatives, murder attempts and custody battles we expect from a telenovela.

Of course we see babies born out of wedlock, a runaway bride, a plastic surgeon, a teenager with HIV, a construction company that launders money for the Mafia, lots of DNA tests, seductions and philandering.

One of my favorite characters is one who becomes the rock the rest of the family orbits around: a gay man who had been banished from the "familia" for being gay. This ended up being unpredictable and the alternate ending they tacked on in the Extras is hilarious! I REALLY like Valentine Lanús!

Chinese Odyssey 2002 (2002)

Good enough for a Fri. night stay-in
This movie is funny. It's entertaining enough for a Fri. night stay-in. I'd recommend to my friends.
Note----Chinese is my native language. So I can't comment on how the viewing experience for those need English subtitle since I did not pay attention to it.

Like one of Shakespeare's comedies
A charming film whose lovely imagery and sweet ironies are the closest thing you might find to one of Shakespeare's comedies. Like Shakespeare, the story manages, somehow, to be both cynical and romantic, to both affirm love and know that it is mad.

exactly as described
This is one of the best Chinese comedies I've ever seen. The scripting and jokes translated well and I give it 5* for pure enjoyment.

Bones: Season Four

Outstanding Series and season
Most TV shows start to go downhill by the fourth season either through too many character replacements or repetitiveness of the episodes. Not Bones, out of the entire series I can count the number of episodes I don't like on one hand.

This is a great alternative to many of the main stream talked about crime TV series out there. This packs in realism, comedy, action, adventure, mystery, and psuedo-science all into one show with a cast that couldn't be more beautiful or enjoyable to watch week after week.

If you haven't seen any of these just buy season 1,2, & 3 you certainly won't be disappointed and it'll give you something to do while you wait for the DVD release of season 4. Also of note is that if you haven't seen season 1,2 or 3 you may be a little lost watching season 4 alone. The writers have done an excellent job maintaing continuity of the story line accross all the seasons so there will be many jokes, comments, and sub-plots that you simply won't...

Best series on TV!
This series is just in a simple word: fabulous! It has everything you could ask for. There's interesting crimes, delightful humor, a fascinating and fantastic supporting cast and of course the two gorgeous leads that have some of the best male/female chemistry to ever grace the small screen. They simply force the viewer to enjoy them as they weave their way toward a personal and loving relationship via their crime-solving opportunities. If ever there were two people made for each other, it is Booth and Brennan.

Season 4 brings perhaps the quirkiest and most light-hearted year of the series yet as it begins across the pond with the fabulous duo in Britain while back at the lab the incomparable Zack is replaced by a host of fun and zany lab assistants. Season 4 introduces us to Booth's brother who shows up to throw a wrench into his personal life and eventually help him grow even closer to his maddeningly logical genius of a partner. Brennan's dad and Booth's son make...

Bones series
I think that it is the best series ever produced. Absolutely brilliant, unpredictable sometimes, but I was very upset that Zack is not in the series anymore. The series has good humour, great stories; makes you laugh, shudder. I have been watching this with my children who are now 19, and they love it too. We always watch more than one DVD at the same time, and cannot wait for season 4 to be out in DVDs. The actors are good and work well together on screen.

How I Met Your Mother: Season Four

How I Met Your Mother restored our faith in network TV and the sitcom
Ye, though we walked in the valley of the shadow of death which was Network TV's obsession with "reality" TV, we feared no evil, for we knew that the sitcom would rise again, and it did!

My wife and I basically boycotted network TV entirely when the "reality" TV craze swept the airwaves following the success of the "Survivor" show. We had no interest in "CSI" shows, or crime drama shows, or marriage shows, or any of the other insane drivel which came out of the "reality" TV craze. When CBS launched How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) and we caught wind of it, we were immediately floored by the quality of the writing, and the excellent cast of actors they got for the show, now entering its fifth season.

HIMYM is an excellent successor to Friends. It is the same type of ensemble cast with romance and heartbreak and drama. But what overrides all of it, is comedy. The show is extremely funny, and packs each episode with tons of humor. Neil Patrick Harris steals the...

HIMYM is back
Season 4 was a great addition to the series. If you are not a fan of the show I would recommend watching all previous episodes before this season because the writers have taken this show to a level past the sitcom. They place high value on character development and the story line just keeps getting better and better. I honestly don't even care who the mother is anymore, I just care about Ted, Marshall, Barney, Robin and Lily.

Brilliant Season...Best Sitcom on TV
Season 4 of HIMYM took TV sitcom creativity to a new level. The introduction of new scenes (Minn. bar) was truly brilliant. There is no other sitcom on television that has as much comedic diversity and creativity as this show. This season really brought this series to the elite of television sitcoms. I hope it continues for years to come...

Ghostbusters 1 & 2 (Limited Edition Gift Set)

A box set so good it's spooky
Ghostbusters is just one of those movies that leaves it's footprint on our culture's collective consciousness. "Who ya gonna call" brings out an automatic response to anyone who lived during the 80s and even for many of those who were born after the 1984 debut of Mr. Stay-Puft and Slimer. The Ghostbusters (1984) disk has everything a die hard fan would want, yet has interesting info on the filmmaking process to keep the casual movie watcher occupied. It has several documentaries made during filming and a 15 year retrospective with cast and crew. The director/star commentary provides amusing anecdoetes with Reitman and Ramis' silhouettes a la MST3K. There are oodles of production photos, concept sketches and even before and after SFX shots. The only thing I regret it doesn't have is the music video performed by Ray Parker Jr.
Ghostbusters II certainly doesn't equal or surpass the original, but it is still an entertaining film in its own right. Definately worth...

WOW! A simply stunning DVD Set!
I've always loved the Ghostbusters movies, and these DVD really deliver! The first CD is loaded--and I mean packed--with goodies about the first movie. Everything from Director/Actor commentary to story boards to scenes with and without the effects for comparrison... it's all there! This set is worth the first DVD alone.

Enough about what features come with the DVD (like a couple of documentaries on the movie), and more about the movies themselves!

Who couldn't enjoy the laughter and the magic surrounding these two movies? Both are great fun and laughs. Some guys go into business catching ghosts... wouldn't we all love to do that?

How can I say more about an american classic? These movies are easily some of the best movies of all time. Any fan of the Ghostbusters should buy this DVD--trust me--it's worth every last penny.

Pick Em Both Up!
Ghostbusters has always been one of my favs! And this DVD release has a been difitally remastered and includes a few newly done scenes! There not brand new scenes or redone completly, the scene is still there, it just has a bit of addition to the end battle with Goza and shows the building a bit more! You wont notcie it really!

Ghostbusters 1 is a great comedy that changed the way people looked at ghosts and ghost effects! These days the FX might look a bit dodgy compared to what they can do these days, but remember they didnt have the tech we have now back then, and this was breaking FX when these movies came out, and they defnitly did a great job with it!

On the first disc you get a few bonus features of trailers , deleted scenes, and a few extras, and of coarse your usualy auiod commentry!

The disapointing bit was I never heard the story of how Ghostbusters came about! Dan Akroyds brother really is an actualy Ghostbuster! They dont catch ghosts or do anything like in this...

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (Single-Disc Edition)

The Comic Comes To Life!
Ok before I start, let me clarify something: Unlike the reviewers before me, I have actually SEEN this movie, so my review is not based on the graphic novel of which the movie is based, nor what the movie might be like based on who's behind the making of it. I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE. Now that thats out the way, onto the good stuff.

I know a lot of Batman, Superman, and Batman/Superman fans were holding their breath on this one. With all classic the DC Comic character movies coming out lately (some of them not as good as others) it was reasonable to assume that "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" the movie could have gone either way. Well good thing for the loyal fan base, this was definitely a hit. I can say I am more then pleased with how this came out, and I have every intention of buying this DVD and watching it again the day it comes home with me.

One thing is abundantly clear when watching this movie: WB Entertainment, and more importantly, DC Comics actually...

Good but too short!!!
So I watched Superman/Batman:Public Enemies twice in one day after I got it. And I will keep this review short as most of the main points have been hit by the people who reveiewed this already (at least the ones that waited till it came out). So here's my break down and the end will be final comments.

STORY:
It was adpated from Jeph Loeb's first arc on the ongoing comic. Love it or hate it, but it was a very faithful adaptation, streamlining something that was basically a set up for the subsequent arcs as well as Infinite Crisis. It was silly, and balls to the wall, and the only gripe I had was not explaining why the Robot was a better choice than Luthor's missles (Answer, robot was made of Metallo, not the guy, the alloy.) But hey all and all I liked what they did.

Characters (voice and portrayal):
WHOA! Okay I read the comics and almost forgot the laundry list of vilains who come out the cracks for the bounty. Batman and Superman were pitch perfect...

No One Is Above The Law
The first DC animated movie to make an impact with me since New Frontier (I love team-ups and big action sequences), Public Enemies features the World's Greatest Heroes joining forces to stop President Lex Luthor.

First off, other than the first Superman serial, Superman and the Mole Men and Superman III, who has been the featured villain in every movie? Luthor of course and while he can be an interesting character, when he's reused as a villain over and over, I grow bored with the character. It's not like Superman doesn't have other villains that can be used in a movie. It's also a shame that they never use any Batman villains when he's teamed with Superman. Yes Joker, Harley Quinn and Ra's al Ghul were villains in team-up episodes of the animated series, but in the team-up episodes (except the one with Ra's) there's always a Superman villain involved and my favoritism of Batman and his Rogue's Gallery aside, the Bat-Villains have always proved more interesting due to...

Bleed With Me (Unrated Directors Cut)

A detail that I missed
Don't know whether this movie is good or bad because I failed to notice that there are NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES, nor is there a version dubbed to English. So if you can speak Danish, it might be good - if you can't, like me, you won't have a clue.

What Are They Saying?
According to the back of the case this film is subtitled. When I played it and found it wasn't I thought I could turn the subtitles on like you can do on most subtitled DVDs. There isn't even an option! Lots of instructions in English but no way to find out what the actors are saying.

So, if you speak Danish or you don't care what's being said this film might be for you. I don't know since I only watched a few minutes of it.

Bleed with me
Well would be nice to watch the movie but wont for they have no subtitles to the movie they lied about that dont forget it says that on the dvd on the back but it has no subtitles. We would understand what they are saying but wow no way no how waste of my money, since i cant understand it no use to watch it.... this is so disappointing bigtime...... so don't waste your money

4 Film Favorites: Police Academy (Police Academy, Police Academy 2, Police Academy 3, Police Academy 4)

Cheap Collection with wrong info on cover about first film
Years ago I used to own the Police Academy box set but had to sell the darn thing as I was a broke college student (those were sad years). The Police Academy films were never art but I enjoyed them for what they were - dumb comedies with fun characters. Now I am happy again because Warner Bros re-released the Police Academy films in 2 separate value packs (The first four are available in this collection called "4 Film Favorites: Police Academy 1-4 Collection" and the last three are in the set "4 Film Favorites: Cop Comedy Collection" packaged with Loaded Weapon 1). The packaging of these value packs isn't nearly as cool as the original releases (despite the dreaded snap cases) but overall the price for these collections is unbeatable.

All four films are presented on 2 double sided discs. I don't like double sided discs as they are easy to damage but then again the price makes me forgive this. Be warned though as the top of the second disc can come with some scuffs because...

Tom Selleck rides tall in the saddle in this TNT trifecta
Tom Selleck starred in three excellent Westerns made for TNT between 1997 and 2003, and all three are now being made available in one collection. Here are brief synopses and reviews of each individual film:

"Last Stand at Saber River" - 4 stars

Selleck is Paul Cable, a Confederate cavalryman who has come home from the Civil War (only slightly) early. He knows the war is lost for the South, he is worn out, and he only wants to take his family back to their homestead in Arizona to live a normal life. His wife, who was told that he was dead, is less than thrilled to have him back home because she is resentful that he left to fight in the war in the first place. Suzy Amis does an excellent job as Martha Cable. She is not the stereotypical beauty who runs around in a bustle under fancy dresses. She is a tough frontierswoman who has experienced many hardships and gets her husband out of some tight spots as the movie progresses.

While the majority of the...

Semi-Review . . .
Tom Selleck & Sam Elliott are perhaps my favorite cowboys ever; their dedication to keeping the Western alive has produced some of the finest of modern entries in this disappearing genre. Though it's nice to see more coming into theaters, like "The Proposition," "Seraphim Falls," "3:10 to Yuma" and "The Assassination of Jesse james by the Coward Robert Ford," none of these films (though all very good in their own right) don't capture the quality or flavor of the classic Western. Selleck & Elliot's films do capture this spirit, and they do it flawlessly.

It's nice to see these three great Selleck Westerns, "Last Stand at Saber River," "Crossfire Trail" and "Monte Walsh," together in one package. My only complaint is that there isn't a similar set being released to house Elliot's "Conagher," "The Desperate Trail," and "You Know My Name"! I think these are all owned by the same studios, so why not synchronize releases? Anyway, here's to hoping that it's not too far...

HEIR APPARENT TO JOHN WAYNE
I grew up at a time when westerns dominated television and John Wayne was the world's #1 movie star so it was inevitable that westerns would become my favorite film genre.

And then suddenly, westerns just seemed to drop off the face of the earth and with the exception of the occasional film - Unforgiven / Dances With Wolves and a few others, this genre was verging on extinction.

But thank goodness for people like Clint (in his earlier years), Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck, who have done their very best to keep the western alive.

This collection of Tom Selleck's TNT / made-for-television films is a wonderful addition to anybody's collection of great western films. Tom is a very believable and credible cowboy, who epitomizes the code that many western men of the late 19th century lived by - honor/ integrity.

We, of course, had our first glimpse of Tom as a western star in some of his earlier films - The Sacketts / The Shadow Riders / Quigley Down...

Gory Gory Hallelujah

this wild movie settles down; perhaps a little too much
Another entry in the long tradition of Jesus Motorcycle Gang movies, Sue Corcoran's GORY GORY HALLELUJAH is the groovy tale of four actors who try out for the role of Jesus in "The Greatest Play Ever Written." The quartet approaches their roles from different perspectives. There's Rahim the black revolutionary (Jeff Gilbert), Sky the bi hippie (Tim Gouran), Joshua the mensch (Todd Licea), and Jessie the feminist (Angie Louise). When the four Jesuses run into a pack wild Elvis impersonators things get all shook up. On the run from the law after one of the King of Kings lays low one of the Kings of Rock `n' Roll, the group happens upon the wrong backwater Podunk town.

It's about here where this wild movie settles down; perhaps a little too much. Our four Jesuses become prisoners in Jacksville and are placed with various pillars of the community, only to find that they're not everything they pretend to be. Unfortunately, this was about the time that I lost interest in...

A Gas
This film is a hell of a lot of fun. I picked it up at Best Buy and love it! Great, great fun. It's a mix of Zombies, musicals and Evil Dead. Any Sam Raimi fans out there will find this fun! Plus it has some coked out Elvis's that you've got to see. Very clever and I highly recommend.

Fun Camp!
This movie is a fun, campy film about some misfits who go on an adventure. After being denied for the role of Jesus in a community theater production, four colorful actors decide to travel cross country to audition for Jesus Christ Superstar. After stopping in a small, Christian town, the four are arrested for sins against God.

If you like The Comebacks, this is a movie of the same ilk!

Peanuts: I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown (Deluxe Edition)

Cute, with great extras
After reading some of the negative reviews posted here on Amazon, I decided to first watch this DVD myself before allowing my kids to see it. I found it to be delightful, even as I watched it a second time with my kids. The documentary on the making of A Charlie Brown Christmas is a nice extra, and I especially enjoyed the animated short "Christmas Tales".

I feel the need to address some of the other reviews. Yes, Rerun gets suspended for "harassment", but the word "sexual" is not used, for starters. I was worried I would have to explain that word to my kids. Wasn't an issue. The "harassment" consisted of Rerun suggesting, innocently and jokingly, to a disillusioned girl in his kindergarten class, that they run off to Paris. That's it. Not only does Rerun not know where Paris is, he doesn't have the first clue what it would mean to "run off" there. For her part, the girl thinks it's funny, so she tells her mom about it. Presumably her mother was the one who took issue with...

Cute DVD for Xmas
This 40-minute TV special tells the story of Rerun, Linus and Lucy's very cute younger brother (I loved the scenes with him stuck on the back of his mother's bicycle). As the smallest child he feels left out of playing around with the other kids and wishes for a dog for Xmas. He starts a great friendship with Snoopy but Charlie Brown is reluctant to let him go. I felt so sorry for Rerun. He's just so desperate for attention, to be taken seriously. He's got a lot of love inside him and needs a best friend to let it all out. Jimmy Bennett's voice acting is spot-on and makes him so real.

It's all harmless fun, if not completely in-disposable. I've made it a Xmas tradition already as well as the other seasonal Charlie Brown specials. Though the DVD is where the real worth comes in. Included is a decent documentary on the original Charlie Brown Christmas, with interviews with cast members and the filmmakers. Also included is Happy New Year, Charlie Brown in which Old blockhead...

Cute and Funny Gags for Little Kids and Rare Old Footage Too
This hour-long Christmas special aired on ABC in prime-time last year, and it's now out on DVD with two featurettes that were produced specifically to be tacked on to ABC's recent airings of "A Charlie Brown Christmas". One of them is a brief documentary on the creation of the original 1965 Christmas special with rarely-seen animation from the early sixties, making it a must-see for Peanuts historians.

There's no underlying religious theme here - just a string of family-friendly gags recycled from strips dating back to the sixties. The only thing here that might confuse your pre-schooler is why any parent would name their kid "Rerun". (It's actually a nickname; Lucy felt alienated when Linus was born, and she experienced a "rerun" of those feelings when her new baby brother joined the family. The kid's real name has never been revealed.)

Long-time Peanuts fans are making unflattering comparisons between this special and the 1965 holiday classic, but I think...

Wycliffe - Series 2

Superb series
This is one of the best series ever. Basically a police procedural, the series is superbly plotted, written, acted, and directed. The regular actors project their characters beautifully, and the viewer really comes to care about them. The plots are riveting, with superb guest stars more than holding their own.

The series takes place in Cornwall, with beautiful scenery, but the situations are not romanticised, and the tough economics of the region come through.

I cannot recommend this series strongly enough.

british mystery series set in cornwall
there was a negative review written by someone who expected this to be masterpiece theater. but it isn't masterpiece theater - it is a british mystery series and i have really enjoyed it. the main character is very low key; very contemplative. but i like that - he is not like every other inspector. if you like the other mystery series: lynley, lewis, et. al. then i think you will want to add this one to your collection. i've also begun reading the books from which the series was taken.

Wycliffe Review.
If you love murder mysteries without gore and violence and like a peek into the gentle pace and scenic beauty of rural coastal England, this is a great series.
This series takes you from grand manor houses to farmhouses and everything in between with a great cast of characters. Amazon has been a great source for me for a tremendous variety of interesting subjects.

Paraiso Travel

Another triumph for Brand
I seem to be one of the few fans of Simon Brand's only other film Unknown, but his follow-up here of tackling an immigration story was powerful, worthwhile and filled with excellently performances. We see the story of two immigrants from Colombia to New York told in a non-lineal format. The two lines of this young couple's trip through South America and resulting residency in New York are bounced back and forth, book-ended with an unusual ambiguity of character outcomes. I liked the style and the resulting quality of moods in each setting, and I really think he makes a competent film with this group of unknowns. The graphic storytelling mixes a spattering of family loss, hatred, love, and finding oneself while trying to survive as an immigrant in the US.

The picture quality and sound are done perfectly and the city scapes of NY looked pristine upscaled. I tried the English dubbed version but it was...

Fantastic!
This is an intelligent, intriguing, and thought-provoking Colombian film! The book by Jorge Franco, from which the screenplay was adapted is an amazing work of literature. Captivating! I suggest pruchasing both!

Not a masterpiece but pleasant to watch
The movie is interesting at the beginning, showing very realistically all the obstacles immigrants face.
Yet, the main character seems very weak and spineless to me ; just the longing to have sex with his girlfriend makes him undertake, as it seems, the journey from Colombia to the US! Once in the US, he is still obsessed by her, despite her obvious obnoxiousness and indifference to his fate. You feel sorry for him, but at the same time you cannot help thinking he is somewhat ridiculous.
The last scene is not very coherent with the reminder of the movie, and to be honnest a bit far-fetched.
Aside from Marlon, the other characters are interesting and also well interpreted (Ana de la Reguera is great). Altogether, I had a good time watching this movie, despite some aspects that could have been better.

Brotherhood: The Final Season

The final scene belongs in the National Film Registry
I don't want to spoil the final episode for those who haven't yet watched it, but I hope that those interested can find the time to watch all of the prior episodes before watching the last one of season three (hopefully not of the entire series). The final scene has to be some of the best writing and cinematography ever broadcast on television. In a word, apropos. If this is indeed the final season that Showtime orders, the final scene is a fitting way for the storyline to conclude.
There are obvious similarities to another great crime-based drama of the decade, HBO's The Wire. However, Brotherhood focuses more on the political side of crime/corruption, whereas The Wire spends more time on the street. If either of these shows were available on broadcast TV, they would captivate large and dedicated audiences and be phenomenally successful. When one reads reviews for both of these shows on any reputable website, they're gushing with acclaim. These shows have gained a cult-like...

Phenomenal in Every Way
It's a shame this series only gets 3 seasons while shows like CSI Miami and Heroes continue and continue. Definitely was one of the best, if not the best show on television during its three 3 season run. The third season was only 8 episodes but quite possibly the best of the three. Easy five stars and something anyone interested in crime/politics should go out of their way to see. Amazing job by all involved.

Simply Superb
With season 3, I was once again blown away by this fantastic series. I sure hope this isn't the end of it, but if so, there is a certain inevitable kind of resolution to the various situations. What really amazes me is how the camera will linger on what would normally be considered a mundane scene, allowing you to soak up all of the nuances of the characters lives. This is not something you will find on any other TV show and indeed most movies, as they are so bereft of character development and their plots are so contrived that they must resort to constantly moving the camera around and fast cuts to try to keep you from becoming bored with their vacuity. Brotherhood is a great, great series. I just cannot say enough to properly praise it.

Taxi: The Complete Fourth Season

The unkindest cuts, indeed
As another reviewer has written, there's a missing scene in one episode where Jim plays the piano. And yes, you can see a snippet of that scene in the closing credits. I suspect it's because there's music involved and the DVD producers didn't want to pay for the rights. I'm also almost 100 percent certain that another snippet is missing in the episode where Louie catches a mouse and releases it off-camera at the end of the episode. I could swear that episode ends with him singing just a few words from "Born Free." The most-notorious DVD butchery was the WKRP DVD set, which I never bought. This set is not nearly as bad because so little music is used apart from Bob James' wonderful score. I haven't finished watching Season Four yet. I'm hoping these two cheap cuts are the extent of the edits. Be warned.

Andy Kaufman begins his fall and hurts a great show
Others have commented about the edits in this 4th edition of the Taxi series, so I won't waste time with that. I will say that this is once one of my absolute favorite shows and I will be buying Season 5 without hesitation. However, thisi particular season is one of the weakest of the show's run. The ratings slid enough that it was cancelled and good fortune got it picked up by a rival network for the final season. The big difference, as fans learned in later years, was the effect that Andy Kaufman had on the show.

What made Taxi so endearing was the creation of brilliant characters that were definitely New York personalities. It launched long careers for most of the cast. Christopher Lloyd, Danny Devito, Tony Danza, and company first came to national prominence because of their work on this show and the ensemble was exceptional. Unfortunately, the sudden fame had a negative impact on Andy Kaufman. After years toiling on the New York comedy scene and several memorable...

JUST WHEN ALL HOPE WAS LOST........
Four years of frustration (and bitterness towards Paramount Home Video) were lifted when I learned Season 4 of Taxi is being released next September 22. My daily routine of checking for any sign of Taxi on [...] will finally have to come to an end.
At last we'll be able to watch such classic episodes as the one where Louie's mother marries the Japanese guy (Louie: "she'll never adjust !"); the one where Elaine pokes Louie's eye for spying her while changing (Elaine: "why are you crying only on that one eye ?" Louie: "It's not the end of the world "); the one where Louie takes revenge on Ted Danson for ruining Elaines hair (Alex: "you're better than that Elaine", Louie: "She may be better than that, I'm not"). And how about Latka's wedding, Jim forecasting the TV ratings, etc., etc., etc.?
I have to think Season 5 won't be that far off, at least not until 2013 or something like that. That's the season Taxi switched from ABC to NBC and for whatever reason I never got to see a...

CSI: NY - The Fifth Season

Every season gets better & better!!!
I've just purchased CSI NY season 5, and I am thrilled. Each season's episodes of the show get better & better. The quality of the scripts and the great actors are what make a dvd set for me. Like most people, I really don't care whether there are Bonus Features or Special features. Sure, they're nice to have, but I don't buy a dvd for that! I love this show more & more each year & I guess most tv viewers agree with me, because this show is in the top 20 in ratings every week!!! Keep them coming!!!

An entertaining, creative and strong season for "CSI: NY"
Killers using avatars to lure people to their doom. A runner shows up at a firesale on wedding dresses and ends up dead from a simple push. A Nazi selling family heirlooms from the Holocaust. The fifth season of CSI:NY continued to have fascinating, challenging stories and changes that would effect the characters personally. This remains my favorite of the "CSI" shows (I dislike the overwrought "CSI: Miami" compared to the more down-to-Earth "CSI: NY" but that's me. When David Caruso takes off his sunglasses and throws out those snappy one-liners it reminds me of a bad Shatner moment).

We have a crew of great guest stars including Ed Asner in an uncharacteristic role (at least this late in his career although he might have played this type of role earlier in his career before "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Lou Grant"--which by the way where IS "Lou Grant" on DVD?).

The fifth season looks quite good although there is a noticeable video noise on a number of episodes but,...

This spin-off certainly stands alone as an outstanding production.
The feel here is totally different from the mother series--CSI. Gary Sinese and ALL the cast are great, and really come together as a unit. Very original stories. Purchased through Amazon. Highly recommended.

A Bug's Life (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

The best DVD I've ever owned
This is probably not going to surprise anyone-- This is simply an excellent DVD, in every scale. The first disc contains the movie itself, which is transferred from its original, digital source. The picture quality is unbelievable. Not one spot comes up during the movie, not one scratch appears-- because this wasn't transferred from film. This is the way A Bug's Life should be watched. The colors are amazing, bright and contrast eachother perfectly. The sound is also unbelievable-- this movie challanged my 1.5 surround system perfectly. Unlike some other movies I've seen, where the two rear speakers are only used about twice in the movie, A Bug's Life uses them almost constantly-- You can hear the crickets and cicadas all around you in many of the scenes, Hopper's gang are flying at you from behind; Even with a simple scene like the "Royal Huddle" the ant's footsteps are coming from around you. The first disc contains a Cinemascope widescreen version and a...

The Super Genius Edition is the one to own
This is the definitive DVD edition of A Bugs Life. The film makers call it "The Super Genius Edition" and I have to agree. They included everything in this two disc edition. Not only do we get both sets of outtakes, but we get Geri's Game (old man playing chess), the trailers (including one for international release), deleted scenes, storyboards, pictures, making of segments and more. It can easily take you 3 hours to go through all the extras on this disc. If you have ever wanted to know how this movie was made, this disc will tell you!

Eye-popping imagery and gut-busting laughs
When I first purchased my DVD player this June, I made a b-line for the rental store for Bugs Life, hoping to relive some of the magic I remembered from seeing the film at the cinema house. What I discovered, though, was that the images were so clean, vibrant, colorful and striking, that I was too busy looking 'at' the film that I had a difficult time 'watching' the film. Pixar did a great job with assembling a touching and imaginative film here, but what remains for me is that the DVD stands as the benchmark for all that the DVD format delivers.

Con: The movies come stacked on top of each other. So if for some reason I want to watch house party 4 I have to take ALL three out and lay them somewhere to get to four. Other than that... IN LOVE!

Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins

Pretty cool straight-to-DVD prequel
First, I want everyone to know that I love the first two Scooby-Doo live action films. I thought the casting was done well, the stories were fine, and they looked good. I thought the second one was a little cooler because it had a lot of the "monsters" from the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? series coming to life.

With that being said, I was a little concerned with this third entry in the series. Usually a movie with this many red flags spells absolute disaster and almost guarantees a turd of a film. Let's spell out the red flags: its direct-to-DVD, it's a prequel, it's totally recast, and it's got a new director. Wow. That's a lot to have going against a movie. Interestingly enough, it didn't prove to be true for this flick.

Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins somehow rises up above the crowded direct-to-DVD sequel / prequel cesspool and actually is successful at being entertaining and not completely cheap-looking. You can tell that director Brian Levant really...

An Awesome Beginning!!!
I really liked this movie! It tells the story of how Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby met and how they formed Mystery Inc. After a misunderstanding on the bus, they all receive detention and get to know each other. Soon, some ghosts pop up and ruin the school pep rally and the gang are accused of doing it, so they are expelled. They try to disguise themselves and go back into school to figure out who is behind bringing the ghosts to life. (I think Daphne looks incredibly hot disguised as a goth girl!) When they figure out what the ghost is after, he kidnaps Scooby and forces the gang to look for a time capsule. I highly recommend SCOOBY DOO: THE MYSTERY BEGINS!!!

Much better than the other 2 movies!
Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins has it's cheesy moments, yet it's surprisingly much better than the other 2 live action films. Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini were the only good casting as Shaggy and Velma in those movies. While here Nick Palatas and Hayley Kiyoko are also good as Shaggy and Velma. But Robbie Amell at least is a much better Fred than Freddie Prinze Jr. who over-acted and tried too hard to look cool when he just came off dorky. While I liked how Kate Melton doesn't act as dimwitted as Daphne as Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her Daphne is actually pretty smart and uses her brain just as much as Velma.

They all bond Breakfast Club style in detention while reading mystery novels. I doubt Sarah Michelle Gellar's Daphne could even read. Daphne isn't meant to be stupid, while Fred was simply just played awful by Freddie Prinze Jr. This movie took a much better approach that's more like the show, well the way the characters act anyway. It didn't really need the...

Ghost Cat

Ghost Cat is a Treat for the Whole Family!
This movie, "Ghost Cat" was very well done. It was featured on Animal Planet near Halloween time, a couple of years ago.
I have been asking the studio to release it on DVD ever since.

Ghost Cat stars a young Ellen Page, who already had quite the screen presence in this movie, before she hit it big in future movies.

It is the story about a young girl (Page) who's Mom dies, and the girl and her Dad move to a new house in the town where her deceased Mom had grown up.

While looking for a new house the Father and daughter see a charming house for sale. The house is owned by Mrs Ashboro, who lives there with her cat, Margaret. Mrs Ashboro points out that she doesnt want to sell the house, that her overzealous nephew, put the "For Sale" sign out without her permission.

We later learn that the Nephew has an ulterior motive for wanting the house sold..namely the money that he would get from the sale.

Mrs Ashboro is surprised...

a great hallowen movie
I first saw this in 2004 and have been waiting for the DVD ever since. I won't recap Matthew's review because it is complete. I will say I am glad this movie finally made it to DVD. I will be buying a copy. It is a family story with the highlight on animals and human courage and belief.

Pretty Kitty
I liked this story. If you are an animal lover
like me you will probably like it too. An older
lady and her cat pass away. The cat's ghost comes
back to help new owners of the lady's house. A
greedy bad guy wants to tear down an animal shelter.
Story is cool because it's about a community that
kicks back against land take overs. I don't care much for seances,
but everything else is great. Buy it!

Still the best!
If your interested in the paranormal, this series will not let you down.
The various cases are interesting, Buell & his cast actually have screen presence by just being themselves, and the outcome of each episode is not always predictable.
I've viewed Ghost Adventures & Ghost Hunters, and similar themed programs, yet none have the overall appeal this series consistently offers.
As i pre-ordered "Season three," here on Amazon, i was also knocked out by the low, low price!
You simply can't go wrong for value & entertainment.

Paranormal State - season 3
By season three, you can see how the team have grown and developed with a more mature and professional approach. They seem more polished and assured. Paranormal State fans will enjoy this DVD as a step further along their search for answers. The episodes in this collection are more involved and hold your attention.

Happy Birthday to Me

Good movie, but the DVD...
Hollywood is a tough town. All one need do is look at the career of J. Lee Thompson to prove this statement. This is the guy who directed "Cape Fear," not the remake with Nolte and De Niro but the frightening original with Peck and Mitchum. As the years went by things began to turn south for Thompson. Things got so bad that he ended up directing pictures for Cannon, the company that churned out all of those low budget, ultraconservative shoot 'em action films in the 1980s with the likes of Chuck Norris, Michael Dudikoff, and Charles Bronson in the lead roles. In fact, Thompson and Bronson worked together on several of these potboilers, including "10 to Midnight," "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown," and "Kinjite: Forbidden Secrets." By the time Thompson passed away in 2002, only critics remembered him for his earlier, more important efforts. But Thompson made another crucial contribution to American film, specifically American horror films, when he lensed the 1981 slasher flick "Happy...

Cry blasphemy!!
I, like every horror movie enthusiast, eagerly awaited the arrival of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME" on DVD. After repeated viewings, I've grown to appreciate this early predecessor to Wes Craven's "SCREAM". That film gave absolutely no credit to this as being one of the rare horror films that redefined the many plot twists, in-jokes and even a few red herrings so popular now in this genre. Now, Columbia/TriStar did the unthinkable: they completely ditched the chilling Lance Rubin/Bo Harwood score in favor of a pointless, even cliched new score. How bad is it? They even play a mock-Olivia Newton-John song to run in the opening credits!!!

How dare they?! This film had one of the finest scores for any horror film and then some! Did Columbia/TriStar completely assume that we, the smart buying public, wouldn't notice? Or did they have so little faith in the buying power of this film, that they decided to take us for idiots!!

I accepted the cheesy "girl posing with a knife in...

Pray you're not invited to the party...
If you've seen this film before, and recently purchased the DVD release, popped it into your player, and got the creeping feeling of something being not quite right, you're not alone... the movie on this disc is not the same as when originally released as the studio releasing this film to DVD has changed some of the musical scoring (substituting an inappropriate disco-like score in some parts)...I'm having the strangest sense of déjà vu...oh wait, a similar thing was done on the recent DVD release of Return of the Living Dead II (different studio). Seems kind of sad that for what has to be one of the biggest markets for DVDs (the United States), you'd think companies could see fit to try and preserve the original elements of a film, rather than changing it (for whatever reason), releasing it (without any warnings or notice of change on the packaging), and slapping a hefty price tag on the box (this DVD is one of the more expensive one's I've seen in awhile)...

My Life is Great: The Stevie Stiletto Story

NICE!
This is such an interesting documentary. For me, I left Jacksonville in 1984, but there were many fun times at Manapaders/Blighted Area and others, that I fondly remember. When I visited San Francisco around 90ish, I was surprised to see Stevie Stilleto's name all over the place (and yes, I thought Steve Galagher was him, not Ray). Unfortunately, they weren't playing when I was there, but it is now all documented me for to see what I missed, and what a story. They really did make the big time. I'm so happy for Ray, but I hope he is still with us? I'd love to see him again, in person. But this is 2nd best. Hey - where's Jackie, the #1 fan from back in the day?!!!!!

How To Be A Woman (Classic Educational Shorts Volume 2) (1948-1982)

Fascinating !!!
Yes , there are a lot of funny things from previous decades in these educational films . I would think this would be an excellent disc to play at a large gathering or party . It's a very stimulating conversation prompter . As a huge fan of fiction films from previous decades i feel this is an absolutely fascinating glimpse at clothing , hairstyles , posture , conduct , screen writing and so on from these times past . I don't know if it'll be you're thing but you certainly owe yourself at least a rental if curious . Strongly recommended .

Interesting films
This collection of old educational films can be funny and bothersome at the same time. In some cases I found I was learning WAY more than I really needed to. Still, a good product and well worth watching.

blast from the past
These "health" films from my childhood were a blast from the past, to say the least. It is amazing how much women have progressed in their lifestyles and roll in the family. This was totally enjoyed as well by my daughter, who is 28. It was a real cultural eyeopener for her. I recommend the companion films on "How to be a Man", especially to compare the differences between how boys and girls were raised. Good for a laugh and a peek at how things were. I highly recommend these to anyone with a penchant for nostalgia!

The set has the finale of the Kurenai/Yakumo saga, and after that we have Kiba and Naruto with an assignment to protect a rather obnoxious client and the supposedly priceless heirloom with him during their journey and as one might expect trouble does come for our wayward travelers. The next few episodes teams Rock Lee, Sakura, and Naruto to guard a member of a band of rogue ninja to his trial but not only must they contend with the rogue ninja band trying to get their prisoner but also one of the guard who has his own personal score to settle with the captured ninja. The following episodes teams Neji, Ten-ten, and Naruto who are trying to solve the mystery of attacks with some neighboring town as well as the mystery of a young amnesic man Naruto saves and brings back to the village and is discovered to have unique abilities of...

the end is only beginning
As Vol. 16 of Naruto comes to a conclusion. So do the affairs/travels/exploits that Naruto, Sakura, Ten-Ten, Garra, Rock Lee, Hinata, Neji, Kiba and all the other characters that encompass this. They are now on their way to putting the things that held them back aside. As Naruto leaves to train with "Pervy Sage" in the last episode of this volume. Everyone vows to get themselves stronger and powerful in their area of expertise so that they can keep up with Naruto. Just about every episode of this volume are filled with action with the majority of the characters getting their chance to shine throughout. Worth the price of admission and worthy of your attention as well. I've enjoyed the series as a whole. But this one really sets up nicely for what soon follows...the next step of the Naruto series.

Naruto Shippuden

great
The only thing I wish they would do with this series is lump them up into a box set or fewer dvd's.

Three Stooges and W.C. Fields - COLLECTOR'S EDITION TIN!

Very Entertaining!
This was a good mix of stories from accross America. Some well known some new and not so well known. If you like Haunted History you will like this video.

About what I expected for 10 bucks.
Do I recommend it? Only if you are really into the paranormal and collect as much as possible on ghosts. Not very high quality, but for 10 dollars, I am glad to own it.

Eh okay...
My husband and I bought this because we love shows like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International. The thing that bugged me about this was that some "investigators" were talking about orbs and so on- but EVERY single time I looked at their photos and video and said "dust" or "bug."

For example they were outside and these little "lights" were zipping around and I was like you can CLEARLY see those are bugs. Or they were in an attic and little orbs were flying down on the screen- and I was like yeah that's DUST.

Good for a general history but the investigators weren't the greatest and the quality wasn't good. Not bad for $7.

So Smart! Beginnings: Color

dvd
my grandson loves these dvd's. him and his play mate had a great time watching it and he has picked up some new words.

Not smart
I'm amazed that people haven't wised up to the deceptive marketing practices used in the titles of videos like Baby Einstein and So Smart! There are no data to support these videos making kids 'smarter' or more like Einstein. Unfortunately, many parents read the title and subconsciously (or not so subconsciously) decide that if the video is called this, it must make kids smarter. Think about it - would you be equally inclined to buy this video if it was called "Ketchup sandwich?" I would venture a guess that most consumers wouldn't.

Our local PBS station carries a lot of them. These videos are slow-moving and simple - which is fine for small children. They're probably no better than most other cartoons for pure (and questionable) entertainment purposes IF your child likes them (which our kids don't). However, don't buy them thinking you're doing something good for your kids. Reading, drawing, building with blocks - those are mind-building activities for little minds...

Good Dvd
My daughter loves watching this from beginning to end. It actually holds her attention. I love it, it gives me some me time and she gets to learn. It doesn't get any better than that.

Astro Boy Vol. 1

From the depths of childhood memory comes Astroboy!
In the early 60's there came to the US through various production companies, the precursors to what has grown into Anime. These productions included Kimba the White Lion, Gigantor, Speed Racer, and earliest of all, Astroboy. The transfers from what appear to be secondary sources are well done. Although the DVD contains a warning with respect to sound quality, I found that only one episode had problems in that regard. The cartoons themselves are amusing and fun, and occasionally dark for 1960s kid programming in the United States. In any case, the cartoons are enjoyable, and my daughter is already devoted to them.

Holiday Comedy Collection (Elf / National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation / Fred Claus)

Great Movies - Above Average Packaging
I bought this set as a gift for a grab-bag christmas party gift, and am pleased with the quality.

I was expecting all three discs to be jammed into one case, but they each individually have their own slim case. I like that, not sure it would be a pro for anybody else though.

I've seen pretty junky packaging on multi-packs like this before, but was happy that this was much better than others I have purchased.

I'm proud to tell whoever grabbed mine out of the center that I picked out that gift set.

As for the movies, I'm not reviewing them. We all know them, and mostly love them. Fred Claus is the weakest of the 3, but certainly makes for a good throw-in to increase the value of the set.

Clear some time on the weekend before Christmas and pop in these DVDs!

Great Gift Idea
I actually bought this for my household - BUT this would be a GREAT gift idea. I expected to put it away after the Holidays but we find ourselves watching it even now!

awesome movies all year long
got it b/c we saw the elf at a dr. office and kids loved it. great package for the price. the elf is a great kids movie. no regrets.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete Second Season

A superb series that is crying out for renewal
Warning! Multiple spoilers!

As I write this review, just after the end of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, the future of the show is very uncertain. The ratings after the show's move to Friday night in February 2009 were never strong, although it persistently ranked #1 among shows having the largest percentage of their viewers watching via DVR. The brute fact is that TSCC did not lack for viewers; it lacked for live viewers during broadcast.

I hope very much for a Season Three of TSCC. This was easily one of my favorite shows for the 2008-2009 season. When it was on Monday nights, I watched it live rather than either CHUCK or GOSSIP GIRL, two shows that I enjoy. When it moved to Fridays I intentionally stayed home to watch it (and then for six glorious weeks DOLLHOUSE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, for what was perhaps the finest nights of TV I've ever experienced). Although the show lagged a bit just after its midway point (unfortunately right when it...

The Very Best of TV
My wife and I are picky about what we watch on TV. There are just a few drama shows about which we care. I would burn my 65 inch HD-TV before I would watch one of these "reality" or American Idol type shows.

On the other hand, we can hardly wait for each new episode of "Sarah Connor." The actors are fantastic and the characters are well developed. From the former FBI agent to Summer Glau's character, they do their parts so very well. If we are out of town or otherwise not home we record the show.

I hope the show will last a long time but I hope, while they still have the actors together, whenever it leaves TV they will make a two-hour wrap-up for big-screen movie release and not leave us hanging as some good shows have done.

I've bought the DVDs of the first season and will buy any future DVDs as quickly as they are available. We didn't miss an episode because of the wonder of recording but I want them for the future. What great TV and what great...

A Haunting - Twilight of Evil - AS SEEN ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL - COLLECTOR'S EDITION TIN!

Don't Buy
This Program is only 4 episodes of the regular series. Not Worth it! You can buy the whole season for about the same price.

Great Scary Stories
The stories are spooky. What is really unbelievable is that the format and information these stories use, are in no way as scary as the real story found in books about the hauntings.

If you own any other HAUNTING SERIES DVD'S, be sure that you are not buying the same stories, packaged under a different title. Check the stories names before ordering. OR get the Series 1-4. It is great fun!!
